Once filed, every document becomes part of the public record. You do not need to be the property owner to look at a deed or request a copy. The office also serves as secretary to the Board of County Commissioners and handles payroll, purchasing, and financial reporting for the county. But its core job for property purposes is recording and indexing land documents so the chain of title stays clear.
Guthrie served as Oklahoma's first state capital and was at the center of the 1889 Land Run. That history means Logan County holds some of the earliest property records in the state, going all the way back to the original land patents.

Logan County Document Filing Rules
Filing a deed in Logan County requires strict format compliance. The document must be an original or certified copy. It has to be in English and legible without magnification. Paper cannot be larger than 8.5 by 14 inches. A 2-inch top margin is required, along with 1-inch margins on the sides and bottom. The deed needs full names and signatures of all grantors, names and mailing addresses of all grantees, and a specific legal description. For platted land, include the addition, block, and lot. For unplatted land, give the section, township, and range. The document must be reproducible by the clerk's equipment and have enough blank space for stamps and recording information.
Since November 2023, every deed in Logan County must include an Alien Land Ownership Affidavit for each grantee under 60 O.S. Section 121. Get the affidavit forms from the Oklahoma Attorney General's website. There are separate forms for individuals and for business entities or trusts. The clerk will not record a deed without this affidavit unless an exemption applies and is stated on the face of the document. Exemptions include correction deeds, transfer-on-death deeds, court orders, and deeds to government bodies.
Non-conforming documents can still be recorded if they are legible and reproducible. But the fees jump. The first page costs $25.00 instead of $8.00 and each added page is $10.00 instead of $2.00. If a document has more than 25 legal descriptions per page, there is an extra $1.00 charge for each one past 25. Those descriptions must be sorted by township, range, and section. Documents that are not sorted properly will be rejected by the Logan County Clerk.
Recording Fees for Logan County Deed Records
Logan County uses the standard Oklahoma fee schedule set by Title 28, Section 32. A conforming deed costs $8.00 for the first page and $2.00 for each page after. Add the $10.00 records preservation fee and a one-page deed totals $18.00. Documentary stamp tax applies to deeds that transfer property for value. The rate is $1.50 per thousand dollars of the sale price.
Copies cost $1.00 per page in the office. Certification is $1.00 per document. The clerk can make copies while you wait. Online records at OKCountyRecords.com can be viewed and printed from your browser at no charge, though those are not certified.
Logan County Deed Record Questions
The Logan County Clerk's office gets frequent questions about deed records. One common question is how to get a copy of a deed or mortgage. You can visit the office in Guthrie during business hours. Copies are $1.00 per page and certification is $1.00 per document. Records are also on OKCountyRecords.com for free online viewing.
Another question that comes up often is about mineral searches. The clerk's office does not perform full mineral title searches. However, staff can do a quick look if you provide a name and legal description. For a thorough mineral search, you need to hire a landman. This is true across most Oklahoma counties. Mineral rights, royalty interests, and oil and gas leases all get recorded at the clerk's office, but untangling decades of transfers takes professional work.
People also ask about planning and zoning in unincorporated areas of Logan County. There are no planning, zoning, permitting, or inspection requirements in the unincorporated parts of the county. That can matter for property research because it affects what you can build on a parcel. The Oklahoma State Courts Network is a useful tool for finding court cases tied to Logan County property, such as quiet title actions or foreclosures.
